- Zakk Wylde & Axl Rose
Meet Again.. (Metal Sludge):
-
The last time Axl and Zakk
shared studio space was about 5 years ago when Zakk was
brought in to replace Slash on G'N R's next album. The
collaboration lasted about four songs (great rockers-that
deserve to be released as is). Since then, Zakk has
released numerous CDs and Axl has spent over six million
dollars of Geffen's money and has released one song on a
soundtrack. Fast forward to the year 2000; Zakk is
finishing up work on his first movie, the freshly renamed
Rock God with Friend's star Jennifer Aniston and Marky
Mark (Mark Walhberg). Zakk performs on all of the
soundtrack songs states "my fucking guitar playing is all
over it. You'll know who's doing the fills! Songs like
Blood Pollution. It's cheesy '80's metal, but I'm trying
to make it as cool as possible. I've written Crown Of
Falsehoods for the movie. I'll be singing that one on the
soundtrack." Zakk will be on the road ("Japan in June,
July /August we'll be in the States with Crowbar raping
stages repeatedly and end of August/September in Europe.
We will definitely hit Canada - Toronto, Vancouver and
Montreal. All the major markets.") supporting Black Label
Society's new release Stronger Than Death. The album's
inspiration comes from Blink 182 and Third Eye Blind,
"just listening to their shitty music for awhile and you
just get a penchant for violence. I've turned my anger to
Third Eye Blind now. They're the cheesiest fuckers. If I
played music like that. I would have been getting my ass
kicked repeatedly in high school." As for the album
itself, "the new album was recorded at Rumbo studios.
That's where Guns recorded Appetite. We did it in the
same room. Appetite is one of the best records of all
time. I saw Axl down there. I played him some of our shit
and he played his stuff. It was great seeing him again.
He played me a piano ballad and a bunch of others ones.
Some high rockers!" Any truth to the rumours that Axl has
gone industrial? "Nah, it doesn't sound anything like
that. I didn't hear any keyboards going on. I told him
that 'if you want me to jam on anything. Just let me
know. I'm right down the hall.' Nothing happened though.
Anyhow, he looks exactly the same as he always has and
he's singing his ass off. He takes care of himself. He's
not a junkie or any of that shit." Thanks for the Axl
update Zakk! Any last words about BLS? "We just shot the
video for Counterfeit God. Mark Wahlberg plays bass in
the video. It's hysterical. The song is essentially about
non-alcoholic beer. Oh, the
brutality!"
